THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in the state. Heavy rains will continue to lash strongly for four more days. An orange alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod today. Yellow alert has been issued in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
The IMD has informed that one should not venture into fishing on the Kerala- Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 km per hour and at times up to 55 km per hour and bad weather conditions on the coasts.
The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 km per hour at isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam (Orange Alert: next three hours only) districts in the next three hours.
Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities. Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also anticipate the risk of danger and move as per the instructions of the authorities. Those living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, the IMD said that local government and revenue authorities can be contacted.
