KOCHI: The High Court has given the central government a final chance to announce its decision on waiving off the loans of the Wayanad landslide victims. The court directed the Centre to inform its decision by September 10. The central government’s counsel told the court that the decision could be announced after Onam.
However, the Division Bench told Additional Solicitor General E.R. Sundaresan, who appeared for the Centre, that this would be the last chance. The court delivered this remark in a stern tone.
Highlighting that Kerala Bank had already written off the affected families’ loans, the court once again questioned why the Centre could not take a similar step.
