KOCHI: Some people still say that 'government of boys' will come here when 47.8 percent of women entrepreneurs are registered in the Udyam Registration for small industries in Kerala, said Industries Minister P Rajeev. The minister was responding to AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal's statement while inaugurating the Kerala Kaumudi Industrial Conclave, which discusses the industrial development opportunities and challenges of Kerala, at Hotel Renai in Palarivattom.
"The government is trying to create high-paying jobs in Kerala. The central government estimates that the 85,000 Udyam registrations in Kerala when this government came to power have now reached 16,80,000. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people are also increasingly turning to entrepreneurship. The return of Malayalis who migrated to other countries for work and a better life is also visible now. 40,000 overseas Malayalis returned in the seven months up to July 30 alone."
There is no land in Kerala to give to big industries. Industries that provide more jobs and higher salaries in less space are better. The world's largest oleoresin company and the largest company that manufactures artificial teeth are in Ernakulam. There are many important institutions like this in Kerala. Yet, Malayalis themselves are the ones who are at the forefront of saying that Kerala is not industry-friendly,' the minister said.
The Minister distributed Kerala Kaumudi's Excellence Awards to those who have demonstrated excellence in various fields. The Minister presented the Editor's Award for the best regional journalist to Kerala Kaumudi Palluruthy correspondent CS Shiju. Prabhu Warrier, Deputy Editor of Kerala Kaumudi and Kochi-Thrissur Unit Chief, presided over the function.
