KOTTAYAM: Beverages Corporation has recommended to make liquor sales online. A media has reported that efforts are underway to build a mobile app for this. Swiggy has expressed interest in delivering liquor.
It has been recommended that liquor be served online only to those who have completed the age of 23. The identity card will be examined to confirm the age. One can order up to three liters at a time.
The online platforms will be fully responsible for the distribution of liquor. BEVCO MD Harshita Attalluri clarified that if more companies come forward, tenders will be invited. Recommendations in this regard were being given to the government for the last three years. She added that if there is a favorable decision, doorstep liquor delivery will start immediately.
Meantime, Excise Minister M B Rajesh said online liquor sales are not presently under consideration in the state. Many ways will have to be thought to increase revenue. However, online liquor sales are not being considered right now. There is still a conservative attitude in the state regarding the sale of liquor. The distillery issue is an example. Those who have allowed distilleries in other states have opposed it here. He said the government does not intend to impose anything before the society is ready.
