KOCHI: Dileep was arrested on July 10, 2017, in the actress attack case, but was granted bail with strict conditions on October 3. Pulsar Suni, who spent a long time in jail, was granted bail by the Supreme Court in September 2024. The trial began on March 8, 2018. The charges against Dileep include conspiracy to commit gang rape, insulting femininity, wrongful detention, use of force, destruction of evidence, and taking and distributing obscene photographs.
One of the most crucial pieces of evidence in the case came from the late director Balachandra Kumar. Balachandra Kumar revealed that Pulsar Suni had gone to Dileep's house in Aluva after the crime was committed. Kumar also became a key witness in the case. The main parts of the revelations made by Balachandra Kumar in the case are as follows.
"I saw on TV that the police had arrested Pulsar Suni in the actress attack case. When I called Dileep and asked about it, he lied and said he didn't know. After he became the eighth accused in the case, Dileep summoned me to his house, saying he wanted to talk about something. Dileep asked me not to tell anyone that he had met Pulsar Suni. Even Kavya Madhavan waited the whole time, even skipping meals, to get assurance from me that I will not talk about Dileep’s meeting with Suni in public."
Balachandra Kumar had said that Dileep's brother, sister-in-law and Kavya had called him asking not to reveal Dileep’s meeting with Suni as it would hamper the chances of bail. Kumar revealed that after getting bail, Dileep plotted a move to harm the investigating officer and even watched the video of the attack on the actress at his home. Kumar also handed over evidence to substantiate this revelation to the investigation team.
