KOZHIKODE: The Kerala High Court rejected director V M Vinu’s plea seeking to include his name in the present electoral roll. Vinu was the mayoral candidate of the UDF in the polls in Kozhikode Corporation.
The court rejected his plea after harshly criticizing him. The court asked whether a person fielded doesn't even know if his name is in the voters list. Vinu was projected by the party as mayoral candidate. The court pointed that celebrities do not have special consideration.
V M Vinu had said yesterday that he had voted in 2020. He also alleged that the reason behind the omission of his name in the new voter list is a conspiracy hatched by the CPM and the Election Commission.
Vinu did not have votes in the elections held in 2020. The electoral registration officer (ERO) had earlier clarified that Vinu did not avail the opportunity to raise objections after the publication of the first voter list last July. He had three opportunities to add his name and so on. Although time was given until November 13, Vinu did not make use of it. The Congress said they are considering Plan B as he cannot contest.
Meantime, Bindu Kammanakandi, the UDF candidate in the 19th ward of the Corporation Medical College South, also don’t have votes. The congress is in the process of deciding a new candidate. Bindu had also started campaigning.
