Huge fire breaks out in police dumping yard, over 500 vehicles gutted

THALIPARAMBA: A huge fire broke out at the police dumping yard in Vellarampara in Thaliparamba-Srikandapuram road. More than five hundred vehicles involved in various cases were burnt. The fire broke out around 11.30 pm on the roadside. The police stopped the traffic immediately. The fire force took about five and a half hours to put out the fire. Two units led by station officer

CP Rajesh from Thaliparamba fire station started efforts to douse the fire but due to strong wind and scorching sun, the fire spread to residential areas. Then five units of fire force from Mattannur, Kannur and Payyannur reached the spot. The vehicles seized by the police in various cases from Thaliparamba, Srikandapuram, Pazhayangadi, Payyannur, Mayyil, Pariyaram and Valapatanam police station limits were stored in the Vellarampara dumping yard. The vehicles that had been kept for many years were burned. Apart from fire force vehicles, tanker lorries supplying drinking water also reached the spot with water. Under the leadership of Kannur Regional Fire Officer P Ranjith, fire force units from different parts brought the fire under control.
