KOCHI: Businessman Mohammed Sharshad, who was arrested in a financial fraud case, has been remanded for 14 days. He was remanded by the Ernakulam ACJM court. The police informed the court that there are more accused in the case and that Mohammed Sharshad needs to be taken into custody and questioned. The decision is to file a custody application on Monday.
However, Sharshad alleged that the reason for the arrest was political enmity and that the Chief Minister's Political Secretary P Sasi was behind it. Sharshad told the media about this while being taken away from the court by the police.
'The complaint was filed by a person with CPM connections. I am under threat. I will call a detailed press conference after I come out. This is an internal matter of the party. P Sasi's office is mainly behind this; that's it. They are trying to silence my issue against the secretary's son by threatening me," said Sharshad.
Sharshad was arrested by the police from Chennai the other day on a complaint that he had cheated two people of Rs 40 lakh by promising them profit and shareholding in the company he was a director of. The complaint was filed by a native of Kochi. Sharshad is the director of a company called 'Pent'. Along with Sharshad, a native of Tamil Nadu, who is the CEO of the company, is also an accused in the case.
Mohammed Shershad had earlier levelled serious financial allegations against CPM state secretary MV Govindan and his son. Sharshad had written a letter to the CPM Politburo alleging that UK-based Malayali businessman Rajesh Krishna and senior CPM leaders had made illegal transactions. Sharshad also alleged that Rajesh Krishna was a benami of CPM leaders. Subsequently, senior leaders including MV Govindan and TM Thomas Isaac had sent legal notices against him.
