THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The indefinite OP boycott by medical college doctors protesting the government's failure to resolve issues including salary revision arrears will begin today. An academic boycott will also be held. Non-emergency surgeries will be boycotted indefinitely from the 19th. Casualty, labour room, ICU, bed treatment, and postmortem examination will not be affected by the strike.
Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association (KGMCTA) state president Dr Roshanara Begum and general secretary Dr Aravind CS announced that they will boycott university examination work and related duties from the 26th.
Although the doctors had started an indefinite boycott of OPDs from the 2nd of this month, a discussion was held with the Additional Chief Secretaries of the Health and Finance Departments and the Director of Medical Education that evening. The boycott was then withdrawn that night itself. The office bearers said that they are embarking on an intense strike after further discussions failed to yield any results and that the organisation is concerned about the difficulties faced by the patients.
