KOCHI: An internal investigation was initiated against CISF officials in Ivin Jijo's (24) death in Ernakulam. The investigation is being led by CISF DIG R Ponni. It was the last day that two CISF officers rammed their car into Ivin and killed the youngster brutally in Kochi premises.
The police will soon file a custody application for accused Vinay Kumar Das and Mohan in the case. The Angamaly Judicial Magistrate Court had remanded the accused till May 29. The remand report states that the two officers hit the car on Ivin with clear intentions to kill. There is a strong demand to charge them with murder and impose harsher punishment.
A protest was held on Friday in the court premises under the leadership of the Youth Congress and DYFI demanding the same. The incident took place at Nayath near Nedumbassery Airport at 10 pm on Wednesday. The accused were drunk.
Ivin’s car rubber past the CSIF official’s vehicle while trying to overtake it. After shouting expletives at the youngster, the officers attempted to reverse the vehicle and go away. However, Ivin stood in front of them and tried to film the video on his mobile phone. Ivin asked them to not leave until the police arrived. However, the two started the car forward all of a sudden, making Ivin hang on in the bonnet portion of the car for almost 1.5 kilometres. Despite pleading to stop, the car dragged Ivin along to St. John's Chapel on Kapella Road. Here, the car suddenly braked and Ivin fell on the asphalt.
The CISF officials then made the car run over the youngster as he was caught between wheels for another 15 meters. By this time, injuries were all over his body and Ivin died even before being rushed to hospital.
