THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An 'intensified low pressure' over the southwest Bay of Bengal along the northern coast of Tamil Nadu's Puthusseri has weakened into a depression. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that it is likely to travel through Tamil Nadu and Kerala in a west-northwest direction and enter the southeast Arabian Sea as a cyclone on November 13.
As a result of this, isolated heavy rains are likely to lash in Kerala on November 13 and 14. The Central Meteorological Department said strong winds are likely to blow at a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasionally of up to 55 kmph and bad weather are likely over Lakshadweep, Maldives and Kanyakumari.
The Central Meteorological Department also said there is a possibility of forming a new low pressure in the south-east Bay of Bengal along the Andaman Sea on November 16.
Yellow alert has been sounded in eleven districts--Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. The Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in some districts, but as there is a possibility of isolated heavy thundershowers in the hilly areas, caution similar to the orange alert should be followed here.
