NILAMBUR: CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan has stated that he will legally counter the legal notice sent by Jamaat-e-Islami. He reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami was the only group that stayed away from the protest against the Pahalgam terror attack and continues to do so. Govindan also demanded that Priyanka Gandhi should clarify her stance regarding the UDF’s association with Jamaat-e-Islami.
The defamation notice from Jamaat-e-Islami was in response to Govindan's remark that the organization failed to take a stand against the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The notice, sent through Advocate Ameen Hasan, demanded a public apology and a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the alleged defamatory statement.
Meanwhile, in Nilambur — where by-election campaigning is underway — CPM had earlier clarified that it would not interfere in the incident involving election officials inspecting the vehicle used by Congress leaders Shafi Parambil and Rahul Mamkootathil. Govindan said that the Congress leaders' action of threatening government officials was an act of arrogance. While the Congress leaders claimed the inspection was intended to humiliate them, CPM leaders argued it was a standard election procedure.
