Kerala on high alert after Delhi blast; Widespread searches in various districts

KOZHIKODE: In the wake of the Delhi blast, Kerala is also on high alert. Security has been tightened. Bomb squads and dog squads are conducting checks in various districts. A media reported that police conducted extensive checking in Wayanad and Malappuram Collectorates. Vehicles in the compound are also being searched.


It is reported that searches have been conducted in many places in Kochi. Extensive checks are being conducted in places including Kozhikode beach. There was a blast near Gate No 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station near the Red Fort last evening. A white Hyundai i20 car exploded with a loud bang. 13 lost their lives and many undergoing treatments are in a serious condition.


The NIA, NSG and Delhi Police Special Cell have started an investigation into the incident. CCTV footage was also examined. A high-level meeting called by the union home minister is assessing the situation.


The initial conclusion is that it was a suicide attack. The suspect's mother and two brothers have been taken into custody. They will be questioned in detail. Delhi's Lal Qila Metro station has been closed for security reasons. All other stations are functioning normally. Security has been tightened at the railway and metro stations.
