
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted chances of heavy rainfall in two Kerala districts on Sunday. It is expected that rain will lash in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts in the next few hours. A yellow alert was issued in Idukki district today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours.

A low-pressure area has formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka. A cyclonic circulation is present in the southeast Arabian Sea near the south Kerala coast. Due to these reasons, the Indian Meteorological Department informed that there is a possibility of rain with thundershowers in Kerala for the next five days. There is also a possibility of isolated heavy rain from November 15 to 19.
The National Oceanographic Research Centre (NORC) informed of a possibility of sea erosion due to waves rising to 0.2 to 1.0 meters along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tonight as part of the Kallakadal phenomenon. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to be vigilant as there is a possibility of sea erosion.
