THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sweltering heat is taking a toll on people of Kerala. The Meteorological Department warned of a temperature surge in the coming days. The highest temperature is being recorded in Kannur. The Kannur airport recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius in the past few days. The temperature surpassed 35 degrees in Kottayam, Kochi, and Kozhikode.

Peak summer means increased electricity consumption. The previous day's electricity demand was 88 million units. The State Disaster Management Authority has warned people to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm due to the increasing heat.

Sunstroke, heatstroke, and dehydration should not be taken lightly and can cause drastic health consequences. Drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated drinks is advised. Special care should be taken in forest areas as there is a possibility of forest fires.
