THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, who became the youngest organ donor in the state after being declared brain dead following a road accident in Kottayam, will be accorded a farewell with state honours, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced. In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister said that even in the midst of their unbearable grief, Alin’s parents made the noble decision to donate her organs. He described their act as deeply inspiring and a powerful example for society.

Chief Minister's Facebook post
The death of ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham in the Kottayam accident is deeply painful. Her parents’ decision to donate her organs despite their deep grief is truly commendable. Alin became the youngest organ donor in the state after her father Arun Abraham and mother Sherin Ann John agreed to donate her liver, two kidneys, heart valve and two corneas. Her organ donation has given new life to five people.

It was first decided to transport the organs from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. However, since civil aviation rules do not allow helicopter services at night, it was decided to transport them by road. I would like to appreciate the police for making quick arrangements to ensure smooth and fast travel, and thank the public for their cooperation.

As the child’s body had to be handed over to the relatives yesterday itself, special arrangements were made to conduct the post-mortem at Kottayam Medical College the same night. Hospital authorities informed that organs from Alin have already been transplanted into two children, and their health condition is improving.

The cooperation between the government and the private sector in this effort deserves special mention. Alin Sherin’s parents have set a great example for Kerala society in the field of organ donation. I join the family and the people of the state in mourning this loss. My heartfelt condolences. Our state will bid farewell to Alin with official honours.
