THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of rain with thunder at isolated places in Kerala today and tomorrow. Thiruvananthapuram district is likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places during the next three hours with winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.
Officials have informed that lightning can turn out to be dangerous and precautions should be taken from the time the cloud starts to be seen. Staying in open areas increases the chance of being struck by lightning.
Windows and doors should be closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Avoid standing near doors and windows. The IMD has advised people to stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.
At the same time, the IMD has informed that the heat wave will continue in various areas of Palakkad district till April 26. The heatwave warning is based on consecutive days of extreme heat and temperatures are forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
A heat wave is a situation that calls for extreme caution. Due diligence should be exercised by the public, government and non-governmental systems. This weather makes it more prone to sunstroke and sunburn. Authorities also warned that sunburn can lead to even death.
