KOCHI: Devaswom Administrator GS Radhesh today wrote to Ani Prakash from the Tantri family of Tharananellur to ensure that the Thriputhari Nivedyam on Thursday and the Mukkudi Nivedyam on Friday, which are the main tantric rituals of the Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam temple, are not interrupted. Five of the six Tantri families of the temple have been abstaining from Tantric rituals since August, following the appointment of S Anurag from the Ezhava community to the post of Kazhagam.
Thriputhari Nivedyam is a ritual reserved for Nakaramannu Mana and Mukkudi Nivedyam is a ritual reserved for Animangalam Mana. In the context of the Thantri strike, the Devaswom had sent a letter a week ago inviting the Thantris, including those from these families, to the ceremony, but they were demanding other things in their response. Subsequently, a letter was sent to the Padinjare Tharananellur family, who are cooperating to ensure that the Thantri pujas are not interrupted. The five Thantri families are violating the duties of the Koodalmanikyam temple's Pouranika niyamavali (Ancient Laws), which explain temple rituals and the duties of those, including the Thantris.
Thriputhari and Mukkudi
Thriputhari is the favourite Nivedyam (offering) of Bharata, the deity of the Koodalmanikyam. It is prepared with the first rice of the first harvest of the deity's field. When the deity had stomach problems after eating this, Mukkudi Nivedyam was prepared using medicinal herbs and given to him the next day. This is one of the most unique Tantric rituals in the temple.
