
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC’s Swift AC sleeper bus caught fire. The accident occurred in front of Nellanad School near Venjaramoodu at around 9 am Sunday morning. No one was injured.
The bus was coming from Parassinikadavu to Thiruvananthapuram. When the bus reached Nellanad, a fire was seen on the driver's side and heavy smoke was immediately seen coming from the engine room. The driver suddenly stopped the bus and evicted the entire passengers. The fire was extinguished by the locals and the Venjaramoodu Fire Force.
A major disaster was averted due to the intervention of the bus staff and locals. The bus suffered minor damages. The cause of the fire is not clear. Traffic in that route was disrupted for a long time following the accident. Traffic has been diverted via the Nellanad road as the Venjaramoodu flyover is under construction.
A KSRTC bus going from Bengaluru to Kozhikode was gutted in a fire in last December. The bus was completely gutted in the fire. The incident happened at Nanjangud in Mysuru around 2 am. There were 44 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. Passengers of vehicles passing in front of the bus saw smoke and informed the staff. No one was injured as the bus stopped immediately and evacuated the passengers. Some of the passengers' belongings and documents were burnt.
