KSRTC bus accident; 14-year-old girl who was going to visit her hospitalized sister met with tragic end, 20 people injured

KOTHAMANGALAM/IDUKKI: A girl who was travelling with her mother to see her sister who was undergoing treatment died tragically in a bus accident. The KSRTC bus accident occurred at Maniyampara near Neriamangalam. The deceased is Aninta Mathai (14), daughter of the late Benny, a native of Keerithodu, Idukki. Aninta's mother Mini and 20 others were injured. Aninta's sister Amanda was undergoing treatment at a private medical college hospital in Kolenchery. Since Mini, who was injured in the accident, was in a hospital in Kothamangalam, Amanda was also shifted there.

Aishwarya (25) from Neendapara Nedumkannil is undergoing treatment at the Kothamangalam Mar Baselios Hospital, Juliana (74) from East Vazhappilly, and Elsy (65) from Kachira in Neriamangalam are undergoing treatment at the Kothamangalam Dharmagiri Hospital. The others were discharged after receiving primary treatment.

The bus, which was going from Kumily to Ernakulam, lost control while turning a curve at around 11 am this morning and plunged 20 feet into a ditch. Aninta, who was sitting behind the driver's seat with her mother, was trapped under the bus after her windshield broke and she fell out. She was rescued after much effort. After the efforts of the fire force, police and locals failed, a crane was brought in and the bus was lifted. Aninta was taken to the Mar Baselios Hospital in Kothamangalam, but her life could not be saved.

Mini, who cried out seeing her daughter trapped under the bus, moved everyone present at the accident site to tears. The injured were taken to the hospital in another KSRTC bus. It is reported that the insurance period of the bus that was involved in the accident expired on March 22, 2023.

Singer, good at studies

Aninta was a ninth-grade student at Kanjikuzhi SN School. She was affectionately called Achooty by the locals and family. She was a singer and was also good at studying. Aninta was an active member of the school choir and dance group. She was also a member of the choir of the St. George Jacobite Syrian Church in Kathipparathadom. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3 pm at the St. George Syrian Church cemetery in Kathipparathadom.
