KOZHIKODE: While she was alighting, the bus took off, and Janu fell on the road. The screams didn’t reach the driver as his legs stood firm on the accelerator, leading the rear wheel running over Janu’s left leg. The crushed leg was amputated. The negligence of the KSRTC driver shattered the life of a woman who worked as a daily wage earner, even at the age of 63.

Janu is in the Ortho ICU of Kozhikode Medical College in Chipilithode, Thamarassery. The family is busy running to find some means to meet the treatment expenses. Janu's husband Bhaskaran died two months ago.

Janu, who has been living in Chipilithode, Kozhikode, for 11 years with her daughter Mini, was returning from Wayanad after casting her vote when the accident occurred on Thursday. She boarded a bus from Vythiri to Kozhikode-Nilambur. The bus reached Chipilithode by 5 pm. As soon as Janu put one leg out to get off, the bus pulled ahead. The locals blocked the bus and took her to the hospital. Her leg was amputated on Friday.

Janu does the cleaning job at Meadows Resort in Vythiri, Wayanad. Her son is Vineesh. Janu had vowed to her children that she would not bother them with anything and would continue to work irrespective of her age. However, tragedy came to her out of nowhere, and she, along with her family, is clueless about how to meet the hospital expenses. Her daughter Mini said that she had filed a complaint with the Thamarassery police against the KSRTC employees.
