KTU backdoor appointment notification: VC seeks explanation from registrar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ciza Thomas has sought an explanation from registrar Dr A Praveen for issuing notification regarding backdoor appointments. The governor canceled the notification and directed the VC to hand over the information of the officials responsible for this. The officials including the registrar did not provide information about the notification issued without VC’s knowledge. Following this, the VC has sought an explanation from the registrar. 'Kerala Kaumudi' has revealed the news about backdoor recruitment in KTU.

As per rules, no notification for recruitment can be issued without the permission of the Vice Chancellor. The registrar explained that the notification was issued with the permission of the former VC, but there were no documents to prove this. The former VC denied this. The vice chancellor, Ciza Thomas, who confirmed the irregular appointments, had reported to the governor that the notification was issued without her knowledge or consent. Former Vice Chancellor Dr. M.S. Rajshree didn’t approve to issue notification for contract appointment. Ciza Thomas took over as VC on last November 4. The registrar published the recruitment notification on November 8.

The VC also sought an explanation from the Public Relations Officer, who had issued a press release in the name of the syndicate, criticizing the Governor's action and stating that the notification was published with the knowledge of the former VC. This is because of the violation of the directive not to prepare a press release without the permission of the VC. The syndicate is meeting today to discuss cancellation of notification. Politicians have recently been given representation in the Syndicate through an amendment to the rules. Earlier, only experts were included in the syndicate. I.B. Satheesh MLA and former MP PK Biju were thus included in the syndicate.
