THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the heavy defeat in their former fortress of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, internal conflict began to brew within CPM. The discord became public when former councillor Gayatri Babu came out against incumbent Mayor Arya Rajendran. Gayatri Babu, on her Facebook page, targeted Arya for her holier-than-thou attitude and vying for personal gain rather than working for the development of the city. Gayatri Babu, however, made sure not to drag in Arya’s name in the post, but the damage was already done.
"Had she taken some time to meet at least four people who came out to see her, the backlash would not have been so severe," Gayathri Babu wrote. Gayathri Babu was also the chairperson of the health standing committee in Arya Rajendran's council. Gayathri has since retracted the post after it became controversial.
Gayatri Babu:
"Whatever the political setback, Thiruvananthapuram always sided with LDF. In Thiruvananthapuram district, the LDF has a lead in all the municipalities except the corporation. The LDF has retained the district panchayat and has more administrative committees in the block panchayats and gram panchayats than the other two fronts. This means that the party's work in the district is organizationally sound.
Meanwhile, in the corporation, almost all the wards where the LDF won were based on personal relationships. Over the last five years, this popularity has witnessed a decline. The condescending attitude, wasting time on career building, poor attitude towards lower-ranked employees and fawning over superiors led to the downfall."
