KOLLAM: The laborer who got stuck in the collapsed soil while installing a ring in the well was rescued by fire force within an hour and a half. Vinod (40, Pradeep) residing near Ilankathuvila temple in Kallumpuram is the one who narrowly escaped. The soil had trapped him up to the head.
The accident took place at Vasuja Apartments in Ramankulangara Mathethara Nagar at 1:40 pm yesterday. Pradeep came to work along with Shemir (40), Unni (48) and Babu (48) from Mathethara Nagar. In two days, they dug 12 feet deep and lowered down 14 rings. Unni and Vinod were trying to glue the rings yesterday when the soil collapsed.

Unni grabbed the rope and climbed out. Vinod was trying to climb out but the soil collapsed on his body again causing him to fall. The people who came with them were able to move the soil covering Vinod's head in such a way that he could breathe. The fire force arrived soon and rescued him. The health of Vinod, who was admitted to Paripally Medical College Hospital, is satisfactory.
