MALAPPURAM: A leopard sneaked inside the Nilambur police camp, creating panic on Thursday. The incident took place around 2 am today. The leopard was first spotted by a policeman on duty. Seeing the wild cat prowling around, the official was caught in fright for a moment, but he later regained composure and fired a shot from his pistol upwards. The leopard scampered away in shock. It was a lucky escape for the policeman on duty.

The remains of a porcupine killed and eaten by a leopard were found near the scene. On receiving information, wildlife department officials and forest guards reached the spot and started an investigation. Efforts are underway to find the leopard and return it to the forest. The presence of a leopard was reported in the area for the past few days. Authorities have advised residents to be vigilant.
