Man commits suicide after poisoning daughters; eldest daughter dies

ALAPPUZHA: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old man ended his life by consuming poison after poisoning his two minor daughters. The incident happened at Mannar in Alappuzha. The dead have been identified as Manoj (45) of Alummodu in Mannar and his elder daughter Sivananda (12). Manoj’s second daughter, Sivaganga (7), is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His elder daughter was studying in class 6 and second daughter in class 2. Both are students of Sree Bhuvaneshwari School in Mannar.

Manoj committed suicide yesterday evening at 3:30 pm after picking up his children from school. After stopping the car on a deserted road near Ootuparambu in Mannar, he gave the children juice laced with poison. He later consumed poison. His younger daughter, Sivaganga, spat the juice saying that it was bitter. Seeing her father and sister collapsing inside the car, Sivaganga got scared and informed the passersby.

The locals immediately rushed the three to the hospital, but Manoj died on the way. Manoj's elder daughter Sivananda, who was in a critical condition, died at around 10 pm last night. Manoj also has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. The reason that led to the suicide is not clear. The Mannar police have registered a case and started an investigation.
