Man dies after jumping from seventh floor of Kannur Medical College

PARIYARAM: A 40-year-old man died after jumping from the seventh floor of Kannur Government Medical College Hospital. The deceased has been identified as Tom Thomson, son of Thomas and Thresiamma, from Alakkunnu, Kanjileri, Sreekandapuram.

The incident occurred around 1 am on Saturday. Tom had come to the hospital to stay with his father, Thomas, who was admitted for hernia surgery. It is reported that Tom was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

According to hospital sources, he created a disturbance inside the hospital, causing panic among patients and bystanders. When security staff and others tried to restrain him, Tom moved near a staircase on the seventh floor and threatened to jump through a window. Hospital authorities immediately informed the fire and rescue services. Fire force personnel attempted to calm him down, but he did not cooperate. They later spread a safety net below to rescue him. However, Tom jumped to an area where the net was not placed.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the casualty department, but doctors confirmed his death at around 3.10 am. His father had been admitted to the seventh-floor ward for surgery four days ago. Tom Thomson was involved in a divorce case with his wife, Jyoshi Mol, which is currently pending in court.
