KOTTAYAM: The body of a woman, buried near the house premises by her husband in Ayarkunnam, was exhumed on Sunday. The body of Alpana, a native of West Bengal, was found buried in the house premises. The team reached the house in Illappani based on the statement given by her husband, Soni, to the police. Soni was trying to escape after committing the murder.

Soni testified that he killed Alpana by hitting her head on a wall made of granite. He then dug a hole and buried her in it. On the morning of the 14th of this month, Soni went to the Ayarkunnam police station to file a complaint, saying that his wife was missing. After that, the police registered a case and started an investigation. The police had told Soni to reach the station that evening.

The police became suspicious when he did not arrive. They were investigating based on the tower location of Soni's phone. It was then that they received information that the accused was travelling by train from Kottayam.

The police arrested the accused when he reached Ernakulam Town railway station last night. The police then questioned Soni with the help of an interpreter. The accused had stated that he murdered his wife on suspicion that Alpana was having an extramarital affair. Soni and Alpana lived in a neighbourhood with only a few houses nearby. The initial conclusion is that the body was buried after ensuring that not many people would come to this area.
