THRISSUR: The family of a five-day-old baby girl has accused a private hospital in Thrissur of negligence after the baby lost a finger due to a hospital error. The baby, born to Jithu and Jishma from Pannithadam, was injured early Wednesday morning, according to the parents. They also alleged that hospital staff tried to cover up the incident.

The accident occurred when hospital personnel took the baby to the NICU for an antibiotic injection. While removing the plaster from the baby’s hand using a blade, the finger was accidentally cut. The staff initially told the parents it was a minor injury. However, on closer inspection, the parents found that the finger had been severed. They also alleged that even in this emergency situation, the staff were unwilling to inform the doctor.

Although the incident occurred around 5 a.m., the doctor was reportedly informed only at 10 a.m. The parents requested documented proof confirming that the injury was caused by medical negligence, but the hospital management failed to comply. Subsequently, Jithu and Jishma filed a complaint with Kunnamkulam police, who have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
