Youth slits mother’s throat in Kannur under influence of drugs

KANNUR: A 25-year-old youth surrendered at the police station after slitting his mother’s throat. Christy murdered his mother Geethamma (50), wife of Thankachan of Madathiparambil in Kolakkad Thannikunnu, Kannur. Geethamma is a district committee member of Mahila Morcha.

The incident happened at 10.30 pm last night. Christy attacked his mother after a verbal dispute. Christy, who was a BCA student in Bengaluru, had discontinued his studies and reached home. He was addicted to drugs. Thankachan was not at home at the time of the incident. Christy, who stayed at home after the murder, called his neighbour and then went with him to the Kelakam police station and surrendered. The police came and shifted Geethamma to the hospital.

Her body has been shifted to Peravoor Taluk Hospital. Geethamma had a beauty parlour and tailoring unit at Kelakam and Thannikunnu. Apart from Christy, Geetha also has a daughter. A team led by Peravoor DySP Chandramohan and Kelakam SHO Ithihas Thaha has started an investigation into the case.
