Messing up Pooram; no need of suspension, no strict action against M R Ajith Kumar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Strict action will be avoided against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar in messing up the Thrissur Pooram. DGP Ravada Chandrasekhar has recommended that no strict action like suspension is required against the ADGP.

A new recommendation has been added to the report given by former DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib. The recommendation is that strict action is not required since Ajith Kumar has been shifted from the police. The report of the former DGP was reviewed as per the government's directions. The new recommendation has been handed over to the government. It is indicated that the move is to give a warning to Ajith Kumar and close the investigation.

The government had returned two investigation reports given by former DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, which found ADGP MR Ajith Kumar guilty in messing up Thrissur Pooram and the gold smuggling allegations against Intelligence Chief P Vijayan. This was with the suggestion that the new police chief Ravada Chandrashekhar should examine and give his opinion. The government has not ordered a re-investigation into the allegations.

The former DGP's investigation report says that there was serious lapse from the side of Ajith in messing up the Thrissur Pooram. It lists Ajith's lapses, including serious dereliction of duty and negligence, despite serious problems during the Pooram. Minister Rajan had also given a statement against Ajith. It is unusual for the government to return the former DGP's investigation report. The allegation that this is to protect Ajith is gaining strength. Ravada was asked for his stand on the messing up of Pooram, but he replied that he could not comment as he was not in Kerala at the time.
