THRISSUR: Five people were killed in a massive explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Thrissur. The unit was preparing fireworks for Thrissur Pooram. The death toll is likely to rise. Initial reports say that many were injured and the condition of some are stated to be critical. The accident occurred at the Mundathikode fireworks unit, where the Thiruvambady division's fireworks materials for the Thrissur Pooram were stored. Reports say the sound of the massive explosion was heard even kilometers away. It is reported that many workers were working in the unit. Rescue operations are in progress for the injured in the accident.

The main person in charge of the fireworks display, Satheeshan, and others sustained burns. The Thiruvambady fireworks display license is in the name of Mundathikode Satheeshan. As the road to the accident site was narrow, it was difficult for the fire force to reach the spot. The fire force team then reached the spot by breaking down a nearby wall.
