THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a decision to bring relief to dairy farmers during Onam, Milma Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union, Chairman Mani Vishwanath informed that the governing body of the union has decided to pay an additional price of nine rupees per liter of milk. Out of this, Rs 7 will be given as additional milk price to the dairy groups. It has been informed that additional shares of the group will be accepted as investment in the two-rupee regional union.
Of the seven rupees given to the dairy societies, five rupees should be given to the dairy farmers. Two rupees can be used for the administrative expenses of the groups. The recently announced incentive will be paid with the milk price in August, commensurate with the compliance given by the unions to the union in July 2024. With this, the average price of milk received by the dairies under the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union will increase to Rs 53.76 per litre.
With the implementation of the new decision, Milma Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union expects an additional expenditure of around Rs.6.40 crore. The Chairman informed that the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Union has spent Rs 11.78 crore for the financial year 2023-24 and Rs 1.37 crore so far for the financial year 2024-25.
