cbi

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Thursday arrested two persons from Patna in Bihar in connection with the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam. This is the first arrest made by the CBI in the case. More people are likely to be arrested in the coming days.

The arrested persons have been identified as Patna natives Manish Prakash and Ashutosh. The two are believed to be the main links in the question paper leaks. The CBI said that it was found that the two had handed over the question papers and answer key to the students.

Six cases
CBI has registered six FIRs in question paper leaks- one each in Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra and three in Rajasthan. The officials are interrogating some people in Maharashtra and Delhi. The statements of more than 15 students who paid for the question paper were recorded in Godhra, Gujarat. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the NTA on a student's plea that questions were asked from outside the syllabus.

Huge network behind question paper leak

  • The accused have admitted that they gave question papers to more than 25 students
  • Manish handed over the question paper to the students at a school in Patna on May 4
  • Partially burnt question papers were later recovered from this school
  • Ashutosh accommodated the students at his home to read and understand the question paper

Rahul Mamkootathil injured in lathi charge
NSU and Youth Congress staged a massive protest in Delhi yesterday, alleging that the NEET exam has lost its credibility. The activists also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil was also injured in the police lathi charge at Jantar Mantar. The attempts of the activists to remove the barricades led to conflict.

The NSU activists stormed into the NTA headquarters in Delhi and locked the office. Left student organizations and ABVP are also at the front of the struggle.
