Minister Veena George to undergo MRI scanning following neck injury; Five KSU activists arrested

KANNUR: Health Minister Veena George, who arrived at Kannur railway station to return to Thiruvananthapuram, sustained a neck injury while being allegedly pushed during the sudden protest by KSU workers. The minister, who was admitted to the district hospital, was shifted to Pariyaram Medical College at 9 pm. She is undergoing treatment and was advised to wear a neck brace.

The medical board ordered an MRI scan to examine the neck injury. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the minister at the district hospital. The incident led to widespread protests across Kerala with DYFI and SFI workers destroying flex boards of Congress and even barging into Congress offices. KSU State General Secretary Farhan Munderi was injured in the stone pelting by SFI workers near Kannur DCC office.

KSU District President M C Atul, District Treasurer Akshay Mattul, C.H Mubas, Bithul Balan Muhammed Yasin, and others have been arrested for protesting against the health minister. They will be handed over to the Railway Police.

  • Minister Veena George arrived at the main gate at 3.19 to board the Vande Bharat. By the time the minister reached the open area of ​​the ticket counter with the entourage of thirty policemen, the protesters, shouting slogans, stormed in front of her.
  • Although the police cordoned off the minister, she went ahead, arguing with the protestors. The visuals of the incident have not been released yet.
  • The minister walked to the platform, caressing her neck, implying an injury. The minister also responded furiously to media personnel who were recording the incident.
  • Veena George contacted the chief minister from the station, and it was under his instruction that she decided to get treated immediately.
  • The minister was taken outside the station in an electric buggy. The minister was admitted to the district hospital with a large police contingent. Northern Region DIG Yatish Chandra reached the hospital and assessed the situation.
