KOTTAYAM: In yet another case of Google Maps going wrong, an electric car fell into a stream in Kuruppanthara. The passengers had a miraculous escape. The car carrying Josy Joseph (62) and his wife Sheeba (58) of Chethipuzha in Kottayam met with the accident.
The accident occurred around 11 am yesterday. The visuals of the accident had emerged today. The water that had accumulated on the way to the stream entered the car. Seeing this, Josy and Sheeba immediately opened the door and got out. If they had gone one and a half feet further, they would have fallen into the overflowing stream and a major accident would have happened.
The rescue operations were conducted by the locals and workers of a nearby timber mill. The two had gone to Josy's friend's house in Manvettom. Josy said that as the road was submerged in water, they could not see the road clearly.
The road always floods during the rainy season. So, the inability to see the road often leads to accidents. Google maps have gone wrong in the area earlier also. Although signboards have been installed in this area to prevent vehicles from going the wrong way into the stream, the accident is caused by those who arrive using Google Maps and do not pay attention to them.
