PALAKKAD: Clashes broke out during the BJP's march to the office of MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in Palakkad. Hundreds of BJP workers participated in the March, and the police had to use water cannons to disperse them. Water cannons were used when some of the workers attempted to climb over the barricades. The march was inaugurated by BJP state vice president B Gopalakrishnan. The protest took place amidst heavy rains.

BJP leadership vowed not to allow MLA Rahul Mamkootathil to set foot in the constituency following the sexual allegations levelled against him. BJP leader C Krishnakumar said that the party would block the MLA if he intends to attend any event in the district. There is a possibility that Rahul will reach Palakkad after Onam. If so, there will be large-scale protests in Palakkad. Left party members are also contemplating moves to ramp up protests against the MLA.
