PATHANAMTHITTA: Police have recovered the mobile phone of MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who was arrested in connection with a sexual assault case. The phone was recovered from KPM Hotel in Palakkad. Police believe that the phone contains crucial information related to the case. Meanwhile, Rahul has not disclosed the location of his laptop. The investigation team stated that he will be taken to Palakkad for evidence collection only after he reveals where the laptop is.
Police will conduct an evidence collection procedure by taking Rahul to the hotel mentioned in the complainant's statement and to other locations in Palakkad. He will then be questioned in detail. Rahul, who was produced before the Thiruvalla court today, has been sent to police custody for three days.
As part of the investigation, the investigators will also record the statement of the builder of a flat in Palakkad that Rahul allegedly planned to purchase using money taken from the complainant. Meanwhile, the defence argued that the case is fabricated and politically motivated.
Rahul opposed being taken into custody, claiming that the police were trying to publicly parade him. However, the court rejected his plea and granted police custody until the evening of the 15th for detailed questioning and evidence collection.
Rahul Mamkootathil was taken into custody around 12.30 am on Sunday in connection with the third rape case against him. A Crime Branch team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police N Muraleedharan detained him from the KPM Hotel, where he was staying in Room No. 2002. The room was sealed shortly after his detention.
