WAYANAD: The monsoon has intensified in the state. Northern districts are receiving extremely heavy rains. Heavy rain started last night in several parts of Wayanad district. The Kalloor river has overflowed. Traffic was disrupted in various places as trees fell due to heavy rain and strong winds. People in the Kalloor Puzhankuni tribal settlement were evacuated as the river overflowed. They have been shifted to the Kalloor school. Paddy fields have been flooded in Panamaram.

A red alert has been declared in 11 districts today, while an orange alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts. These three districts are also experiencing heavy rainfall. The warning indicates that the current situation will persist till June 1. Due to the continuous heavy rain, all exams scheduled for Monday by Kannur University have been postponed. The revised dates will be announced later.

Out of the 11 districts under red alert, educational institutions are closed today in 10 of them: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod.
