THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the monsoon will intensify in the state by June 20. There are possibilities of isolated thundershowers till June 14. Meanwhile, if low pressure forms, the state will likely get heavy rainfall. Low pressure over northeast Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a very strong depression near Bangladesh Myanmar coast.
Monsoon over the Kerala coast has weakened due to the impact of Cyclone Biporjoy in the Central East Arabian Sea. This is the reason for the current lack of rain.
Today, Biporjoy can reach speeds of 195 kmph. Only when its strength decreases and enters the land, the monsoon can touch the land without hindrance.
Meanwhile, the state received only 76.4 mm of rain in the last two days instead of the expected 182.2 mm, which is a decrease of 58 percent. The IMD has informed that monsoon has spread over the entire state.
