KOZHIKODE: A young woman who allegedly left her six-month-old baby boy with a fellow passenger and disappeared from a train was later caught by authorities. The incident happened at Kozhikode Railway Station at around 10:10 am yesterday.

The woman had boarded the Mangaluru–Palakkad Special Train. She handed over the baby to a passenger, Abdul Azeez, saying that she needed to go to the toilet and asked him to look after the child. However, she did not return.

When the train reached Feroke Railway Station, the woman was still missing. A worried Azeez got down from the train with the baby and informed the station master about the situation.

Based on the information given by the station master, the police and the Railway Protection Force reached the station. Later, the Government Railway Police and the RPF checked CCTV footage and traced the woman at Kozhikode Railway Station, where she was taken into custody. Both the baby and the woman were later handed over to Childline India by the RPF.

Police and RPF officials said the woman appeared to have mental health issues. She reportedly told the police that the train had left while she got down to go to the bathroom.
