ALAPPUZHA: Motor Vehicle Inspector arrested in a bribery case was given a rousing reception outside the Kottayam District Jail. Motor Vehicle Inspector K G Biju, who was arrested by the vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs 2500 in Cherthala, was given a grand reception outside the jail by the driving school owners and employees. The reception was given when Biju was released from jail.
Biju was arrested by the Alappuzha Vigilance on January 30 while accepting bribe via an agent. However, it is alleged that Biju was framed in a false case. He was arrested when only two months was left for him to retire. The people who came to receive him said that despite being in service for 37 years, no allegations were levelled against him before.
The incident happened at around 5.50 pm on January 30 at Biju's house in Cherthala X-ray Street. The team seized Rs 11,000 along with Rs 2,500 in a search at his house. The search was based on a confidential tip-off received by Kottayam Eastern Range Vigilance S P R Binu. The bribe was demanded for issuing licenses to those who had studied at the driving school run by the wife of the complainant of Thanneermukkom. It is alleged that Biju had demanded Rs 300 for two-wheeler license and Rs 400 for four-wheeler license from the agents.
