THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict quashing the Nava Kerala Survey. The government's action is based on the advice of the Advocate General. Pointing out that the Nava Kerala Survey is a policy decision, the government asked in the petition how the High Court can quash it. The government argues that the Cabinet has the authority to take the decision.

The survey was decided to find out how people evaluate the achievements of the government in the last ten years. The expenditure was allocated at Rs 20 crore. However, the court cancelled the survey on the grounds that the government's actions were not in accordance with the rules. The High Court had pointed out that there was no budget allocation or financial approval. The court also directed that the amount spent be returned to the government fund. The amount spent has not been assessed so far.
