THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a new low-pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. The low-pressure area is located over Marathwada. The IMD has informed that another low-pressure area is likely to form over central-western-northern Bay of Bengal today. Due to this, there is a possibility of widespread rains in Kerala for the next five days. Considering the heavy rains in the state, red, orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts.
Red alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur today. Thrissur, Malappuram and Kasaragod are on orange alert. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Palakkad. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has said that there is a possibility of high waves of 3.5 to 4.0 meters and sea erosion along the Kerala coast till 8.30 pm on May 28.
