KANNUR: The police have got more evidence on the role of an online loan app over the death of first-year dental college student Nithin Raj. On April 9, 98 messages, including phone calls and WhatsApp messages, were received on his phone. Nithin Raj constantly received threats from an app called 'Insta Pay'. Nithin Raj's teacher also received threat messages and calls and she later informed the principal about the matter. The teacher was ready to file a complaint. With this, he was called to the principal's office on Friday and asked about the situation. However, Nithin said that he was not the one who gave the teacher's number. However, the college authorities informed that they found that Nithin Raj himself had registered the number.
The principal then seized Nithin's phone. At this time, another teacher was in the office. CCTV footage shows Nithin leaving from there painfully. The two teachers, identified by their family and classmates as the accused in the incident, have not yet been arrested. They are still absconding. The investigation team had reached Thiruvananthapuram yesterday and recorded the statements of Nithin's parents and neighbors. The classmates have stated that the alleged teacher, Dr M K Ram, had constantly abused Nithin in the name of caste.
Meantime, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Nithin Raj. ‘The suicide of first-year BDS student at Anjarakandy Private Medical College in Kannur is extremely painful. The news coming following the death of Nithin Raj, a native of Uzhamalakkal, Thiruvananthapuram, is unacceptable in any way for progressive Kerala. Whoever pushed a brilliant student to death, it is an unforgivable crime. The whole of Kerala is with Nithin Raj's family,’ the chief minister responded.
