NEW DELHI: The Central Government has informed the Lok Sabha that no chemical presence has been detected in fish in connection with the two ship accidents that occurred in Kerala. The response came from Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian to a question raised by MP K.C. Venugopal. Preliminary tests of seawater and fish samples showed no traces of oil or harmful chemicals, the Centre clarified.

The government also noted that the carcasses of four dolphins and one whale had washed ashore in Alappuzha district, but no study has been conducted to determine the cause of death. The Centre also pointed out that the Kerala government had reported a revenue loss of Rs 106.51 crore due to the fishing ban imposed after the ship accidents.
