KOCHI: The High Court expressed shock over Suraj Lama’s missing, saying the system in place has no consideration for ordinary people. The court said that the country only catered to the demands of VIPs while ignoring commoners.
'Those who preach about Gandhian philosophies do not practice them. Gandhiji’s ideologies remain stuck on everyone’s tongue but not in heart.' The division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M.B. Snehalatha gave an oral judgment in the case.
The court was considering a petition filed by Suraj’s son Santon Lama about the disappearance of Bengaluru native Suraj Lama, who was deported from Kuwait and arrived in Kochi. The court directed that the documents of the deportation be produced. A translation of the document in Arabic is required. Many of the court's questions remain unanswered. The uncertainty over the circumstances under which a person, who was supposed to get off in Bengaluru, reaching Kochi was deemed shameful.
Suraj was taken to Ernakulam Medical College in a police ambulance. The report of the Medical College Superintendent states that the driver of the ambulance took the OP ticket. The police documents in this regard should be produced. The petition will be considered again on Monday. Lama, who lost his memory due to a liquor poisoning tragedy in Kuwait, was flown to Kochi on October 5. The DNA report to identify the body found in the bushes near Kalamassery HMT the other day has not been released.
