No holidays: Election Commission directs local bodies to remain open till 30th of this month

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local bodies will remain open every day till the 30th of this month for the publication of the final voter list for the local body elections. The State Election Commission has directed the gram panchayats and municipal offices to remain open on these days, excluding holidays.

It has been decided to publish the final voters' list for the local body elections on the 30th of this month. The proposal to waive the holiday is for the hearing of those who have applied to include their names in the voters' list and for other works. More than 29.81 lakh applications were received to add new names to the draft voters' list released on July 31. A total of 35.98 lakh applications were submitted, including corrections, changes of location and deletion of names. It is noteworthy that migrant workers from other states also applied to add their names to the voters' list.
