THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George has announced that the distribution of all medicines produced by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a company based in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, has been stopped in Kerala. The action was taken after the Tamil Nadu Drugs Controller initiated steps to cancel the company's manufacturing license.

The Kerala Drugs Control Department also urgently suspended the distribution and sale of the medicine Respifresh TR Syrup (60ml, Batch No. R01GL2523), manufactured by Rednex Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad, after the Gujarat Drugs Controller informed that the medicine failed to meet quality standards.

There are five distributors handling this medicine in Kerala, and all of them have been instructed to stop further supply. The minister warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found selling the medicine. People who have brought this medicine are advised not to use it.

The minister also clarified that these medicines are not supplied through government hospitals. She further directed officials to take strict action against medical stores or institutions that provide medicines to children below 12 years without a valid doctor's prescription.
