KANNUR: Police have suffered a setback in the case alleging an attempted murder of Health Minister Veena George during a protest by the Kerala Students Union (KSU) at Kannur railway station. The claim that the minister was attacked with a weapon has been weakened after the medical report was released. The medical report from the district hospital does not mention any injury caused by a weapon. Instead, it states that the minister complained of pain on the right side of her neck, behind her ear, on her back, and in her right elbow.
Meanwhile, the KSU activists who were granted bail in the case have been released from jail. They were given a grand reception by KSU workers outside the prison. Although the Thalassery Principal Sessions Court granted bail on Thursday, the order reached jail authorities only by Friday afternoon. The court granted bail to the five KSU activists, noting that there was no evidence to prove that a weapon was used during the protest against the minister.
Those released from jail include KSU district president M C Athul, V V Akshay, C H Mubas, Bithul Balan, and Ahmed Yaseen. Speaking to the media after his release, Athul alleged that the incident was like a “flop film” scripted by Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer and directed by the minister’s gunman.
